thank you, thank you, thank you for all the prayers that have been offered in the last few days for our team & the children. they have truly been felt.
after getting ready this morning putting on the same clothes for the 4th day we headed downstairs for breakfast. we finished breakfast and then went to wait for eugene to come and pick us up. the longer we waited for him to get there, the more optimistic we became that our luggage had arrived at the airport and he had gone to pick it up. about 45 minutes later he pulled up – with 2 thumbs up and a HUGE smile on his face! that’s right, our luggage came! but more importantly, the kids’ bags came! we were beyond excited to see them!
we took a quick 30 minutes to refresh with our newly founded luggage and then headed off to nyamata to meet the children. the ride there was amazing. we went up several hills and saw some beautiful countryside along the way. when we arrived at the village we were welcomed by about 20 children performing a native african dance. once the dance was finished we headed inside to meet the children. the morning was spent listening and watching several songs and dances.
another special point today was that one of our team members was baptized. he was baptized in front of the children by the local pastor. it was a very special time for everyone and we are so excited that he has chosen to commit his life to Christ.
we got to give the bags our to all the children today and the smiles on their faces were overwhelming to see. to say they loved them would be an understatement. our team was shocked to look out at them and see they too were holding gifts. gifts for us. gifts for their sponsors. these children have so little, but wanted to show their appreciation and gratitude to us. it is truly humbling to witness the sincere love of a child.
after the baptism, we went to the local compassion office to have lunch with the nyamata staff. we found the accountants office just for reed!
our visit to nyamata ended today with a time of games and visiting with the children. we took muyvunyi {our sponsored child} a soccer ball and it was the hit of the afternoon! the children were excellent soccer players and loved getting to spend the time outside playing and we loved the opportunity to get to know them better.
we ate dinner tonight at a restaurant called papyrus. it was yummy!!
murabeho!
